I had to use /dev/ttyS1, and make the link to /dev/modem by hand since it isn't one of the choices in the control-panel menu. The PPP tips document on the Red Hat site (http://www.redhat.com/support/docs/rhl/PPP-Tips/) has some useful information, like how to start and stop PPP from the shell once you have it set up in control-panel.
