How to upgrade memory on the Inspiron ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Below is a quote from e-mail by A. Tsiolakidis (cod14 cc.keele.ac.uk) dated Thu, 28 May 1998 15:20:33 +0100 (BST): ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The memory bank is hiding under the hard disk compartment: Once you turn the Inspiron up-side-down, there are two screws that have to be removed to get the hard disk out. Then, you can remove the piece of plastic that surrounded the hard disk (there is an arrow on this plastic cover), to find the memory bank. In my machine (32MB), one of the two slots was occupied by a 16MB module. I had to move this module over to the free slot to get my machine to recognize the bigger module I installed (64MB). If you 've never done something like this before you also need to know: a) the module has to be inserted at an angle; the books say "a small angle", but I found 45 degrees practically necessary. So, you push the module diagonally in its place, and once you get it all the way in you press downwards. b) to remove a module, it's best if you have three hands; two to pull the metal clips apart, and the third to pull the module upwards (causing it to rotate initially, and then to come off at some point). Obviously, you can try work-arounds if you are two-handed :)
