Hi, Dell laptop users,
I have created 2 mailing-lists for those who want to install (resp. use)
Linux on the Dell Inspiron or Dell Latitude CP.
The mailing-lists are
inspiron.forum@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch (for Linux on Inspiron)
latitude.forum@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch (for Linux on Latitude CP)
To register your email address in the mailing-lists, please send an
email to forum.admin@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch with the subject:
"Add To Inspiron" or "Add To Latitude"
To remove your email address from one of the mailing list, please send
an email to forum.admin@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch with the subject:
"Remove From Inspiron" or "Remove From Latitude"
I plan to support the mailing-lists for about 1 year, afterwards, I'd be
happy if someone can put the information on a web page. (Of course, all
emails to these mailing-lists have a copy on our server, I can send to
that person who wants to create a web page for it.)
The procmail program is still not definitvely configured, thus I must
add/remove your name from the lists per hand at the beginning, which
means some delay of the service for you at the beginning.
Hopely, this effort will help people use Linux more often.

Dear friends,
There are always people added to this mailing-list, who ask me for the old emails.
To make our lives all easy, I configured our server site:
You can send an email with subject with: "Get Inspiron Info" or "Get Latitude Info"
then the old emails are sent to you uuencoded. You can either use netscape, or Unix
command "uudecode" for reading it.

I've created another mailing list for laptop linux users:

GUIDELINE:

This mailing list is created for people who have Micron XKE laptops, and
want to install/use Linux on it. We will see if this list can also be
turned to be a general discussion forum (for example, NT etc.) later. At
this moment, Linux should be the main topic. Everything related with
Linux on XKE can be posted there. (By sending email to
micron.forum@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch,
all participants in this list will get your email.)
STEP 1: HOW TO REGIST TO THE LIST:
==================================
You should send an email to forum.admin@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch with
Subject: Add To Micron
Then you should get an automatic reply email telling you how to get the
already existing discussion file. If you can't get this reply email in 2
hours, then your mail program doesn't generate the correct email address
for you. In this case, you should go to STEP 2 at first, remove the
incorrect email address from the list. Then correct your email address
in your mail program (netscape can do it), regist again. (If you still
can't get the automatic reply within 2 hours, you must send a "private
email" to forum.admin@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch with your correct email
address and state in which mailing list you are going to regist, I will
check the emails at irregular time, add your name manually to the
correct list.
STEP 2: HOW TO REMOVE FROM THE LIST:
====================================
You should send an email to forum.admin@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch with
Subject: Remove From Micron
You should get another automatic reply informing you being removed from
which list. If you can't get this reply in one day, it's highly
possible, your email address generated by your mail program is incorrect
, or your name was added by me manually. In this case, you can send to
form.admin@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch a private email telling from which list
your are going to be removed.
STEP 3: HOW TO GET THE OLD INFORMATION
------------------------------------
All incoming emails will be mirrowed on our local harddisk. You can get
the previous information by sending an email to
forum.admin@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch with
Subject: Get Micron Info
The reply email is "uuencoded", either you can "uudecode" by this
command in a shell, or you can just view it normally in netscape.
HOW TO USE THE LIST:
=========================
If you have questions, remarks or recommandations, which you think
someone in the list can deal with them, just send emails to
micron.forum@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch
Per default, your emails will be forwarded to all participants except
you own. (Don't worry, all email-trafic is mirrored on our local
harddisk.)
NOTE FOR INSPIRON AND LATITUDE CP USERS:
========================================
The other 2 mailing lists:
inspiron.forum@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch
latitude.forum@lsm.iet.mavt.ethz.ch
are just the mailing lists for Dell laptops similar to the for Micron
XKE.
To be added to these 2 lists, process STEP1 by using Subject: "Add To
Inspiron" or "Add To Latitude", instead of "Add to Micron"
To be removed from these 2 lists: "Remove From Inspiron" or "Remove From
Latitude"
To get old informations from these 2 lists: "Get Inspiron Info" or "Get
Latitude Info"

their laptops.
