Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 97/06/20, 15:00-17:30, Bldg.1 2nd floor, Present:K.Nishikawa(Chairman),T.Ishii,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida,T.Kobayashi,S.Mine, T.Inagaki,A.Sakai,M.Sakuda(KEK),T.Maruyama(Tohoku),M.Kohama(Kobe), E.Jeong,H.Lee(Chonnam),E.Sharkey,B.Williams,R.Reese(SUNY),M.Nakamura(Niigata) (1) Beam monitor *Williams compared the intensity of the mu-prototype with the intensity monitor (Reference) at 3 different HV values, 1.2, 2.0, and 2.5kV. He estimates the accuracy of the intensity of mu-prototype to be 2.75%, 1.7% and 3.1%, respectively. *Inagaki compared the beam position (=center of gravity) of the mu-prototype with that of the profile monitor (=Reference). He estimates the accuracy to be 0.26mm (x) and 0.097mm (y). (2) Horn Kohama calculated the neutrino flux for other parameters than the present default parameter. First, he tried a thinner plate (4cm->1cm) at the entrance of the 2nd horn and obtained 2.4% less flux. Second, he tried 2 different radii (150->120,90cm) for the conductor of the 2nd horn and got ~5% less flux. Third, he also finds the shape of the conductor of the 1st horn which gives 9% more flux. The schedule of the horn test is not fixed. (3) LG *Reese estimated the escape energy using the GEANT and corrected data for the effect. The linearity of the LG response vs incident energy recovered within 4% for E<100MeV and 2% for E>100MeV after the correction. She used the energy loss due to 10X_0 (radiation length) of lead and ~2X_0 of iron to obtain the absolute energy scale of the LG energy deposit. The thus obtained energy scale agrees with the energy scale obtained without material in front of LG within 6%. *Kobayashi prepares trigger counters for the cosmic-ray test. They must evacuate the experimental setup at INS next week. *He completed the LG simulation considering the effect of light guide. He tuned the parameters to fit to the cosmic-ray data. (4)SCIFI *Kobe weekly report (A.Suzuki) They measure the attenuation and the light yield of the 2nd fiber sample. It performs as well as the final R&D sample. If the ageing is ok, Kurary will start full production. The spooling machine starts to work (Tashiro). AT.Suzuki and Kitamura will stay at KEK next week to work on software. *Sakuda reports: 1-3 honeycomb panels (2.6mx2.6mx1.6cm) will be delivered in mid-July in time for July22 meeting. Milling the fiber ribbons and the aluminum coating will be tested next month too. *Mine reports on the cosmic-ray test. The support frame for the fiber bundle was tested ok. The fiber bundle will be polished tomorrow. The data-taking will begin next week. *Sharkey finished the soldering of the EL module. He and Mine will apply the ZBS format to the analysis software. (5) VETO Nakamura and Ohyama measured the time resolution of a 4.6m long counter at HV=2.0 and 2.5kV. They obtain ~2.8ns time resolution at 2.5kV. They may need amplifiers if HV=2.0kV. (6) Muon (Ishii) *Ishii/Jeong/Li/Shiino/Tauchi finished 21 sets out of total 58 sets. *They re-strung all bad wires. *They will have a gas chromatograph next week. *Jeong and Ishii works on the analysis of the cosmic-ray data. (7) DAQ Sakai summarized the weight of electronics hut at the GND level. It totals 769kg (FG 75kg, 1kton 185kgx3 etc). This number was needed for the design of the experimental hall. He also summarized the necessary racks at the basement floor and the total weight. (8) Experimental Hall (Nishikawa) He calculated the penetrating muons per pulse at two positions of FD, 290m and 300m, thru the beam dump and the 70m dirt when we have JHF(50GeV). At 10^14 protons/pulse at JHF, he expects 10^6 muons at 290m and Order(10^4) muons at 300m. Since the rate at 290m is too high, 300m is chosen. Sakuda requested more quantitative number for 300m. *July 8, 18:00, Party to celebrate the unification of KEK/INS. (M.Sakuda)
