Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 97/06/05, 15:00-18:30, Bldg.1 1st floor meeting room. Present:K.Nishikawa(Chairman),T.Ishii,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida,T.Kobayashi,S.Mine, T.Inagaki,A.Sakai,M.Sakuda(KEK),T.Maruyama(Tohoku),T.Kadowaki(SUT), M.Kohama(Kobe),E.Jeong,H.Li(Chonnam),E.Sharkey,B.Williams,R.Reese(SUNY), M.Nakamura(Niigata) (1) Experimental Hall (Nishikawa) He requested the plant maintenance department to start power supply in September 1998 at latest. The public tender for the construction of the hall will be held in mid-July. (2) Muon (Ishii) *Ishii/Jeong/Li/Shiino/Tauchi finished 15 sets out of total 58 sets. *Shiino proposes a slow-control system for the HV control and the monitor of the muon detector. The system also monitors other detectors (LG,SCIFI,etc). See his memo for details. The minutes of the meeting was distributed by Ishii. *He will send a few muon chambers to UCI tomorrow. Kropp will test the installation. *He was told to move the cables in Fuji hall in two weeks. (3) LG (Kobayashi) He reported the test at INS on June 2 (Kobayashi,Inagaki,Reese,Nishikawa). *They rotated the LG counter by 90deg and found no change (<1%) in xenon pulse height. The reproducibility is okay. *They found the nominal beam energy was wrong at low energy (<100MeV). After they use the corret beam energy, the previous measurement by LG at low energy ( <100MeV) agrees with the beam energy within 10%. This weekend, they will carry out another test to measure more precise beam energy and check the linearity at low energy. (4) Beam monitor (Maruyama) *He calculated the center-of-gravity of the muon monitor prototype for all pulses and found the fluctuation to be 2.5mm (Full Width) and 1.75mm (FW) in x and y directions, respectively. He aslo caluculated the mean value of the ADC (=total charge =total number of the beam) and found the fluctuation to be 6.5% and 7.7%, respectively. *He measured the transparency of the quartz and glass after the radiation which is equivalent to 3 years' of radiation dose at the target area and found that glass loses the transparency (1/10) while quartz doesn't (2%down). He considers using quartz window for multi-anode PMT. *He calculated the flux and energy spectrum of the neutrinos (nu_mu/nu_e) at 300m,290m and 280m. nu_mu x10^12 /cm^2 GeV nu_e x10^10 /cm^2 280m 3.699 1.55 4.113 1.49 290m 3.250 1.56 3.489 1.51 300m 2.891 1.58 2.878 1.54 Nishikawa comments that the center of hall must be decided in a week. (5) SCIFI *Mine summarizes the cosmic-ray test: Fiber bunble has been fixed by glue (Mine,Sharkey,Kadowaki), waiting for Suzuno to polish the surface. Ishida/Sakuda ordered the support frame for the fiber bundle to Suzuno. The cosmic-ray test will start in mid-June. Shiino designs the driver module for EL calibration of the cosmic-ray test. *Kadowaki calculated the background hit rate in 7cmx3m SCIFI sheet to be about 0.04/event. It is about 4 times more than that esimated from the cosmic-rays. *Sharkey presented the status of his clustering program. It can identify the multiple peak in one cluster. He aslo finds some bugs in source test data. *Sakuda summarizes the status of the SCIFI detector construction: BU found a company producing 2mmthick 6cmx16cmx2.4m tubes. The fraction of water to aluminum has been improved. Everyone is happy with it. He finds the cost for a 2.6mx2.6mx1.6cm honeycomb panel to be about 100,000yen including support jig. He will order 2-3 panels and test the strength, glue the fiber sheet on it etc in a month. He asks Fujino and Kawai for advise. (6) Offline *Ishida explains the framework of the offline analysis. *He proposes CVS depository for SCIFI software development. Sharkey,Mine,Echigo and Ishida are registered. *He asks Kobayashi to incorporate the light guide effect of the LG counter. *He studies the energy deposit for electrons and muons in a 4cm thick VETO counter in front of LG using the GEANT. (7) VETO *Ohyama and Nakamura set up the DAQ system. They will measure the time resolution with different HV values (2.0 vs 2.5 kV) and with different PMTs (cheap vs. good one). *They bought 6 TMC modules (32 ch each) from LHC group. //(M.Sakuda)
