Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 97/05/30, 15:00-16:30, Library meeting room Present:K.Nishikawa(Chairman),T.Ishii,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida,T.Kobayashi,S.Mine, T.Inagaki,A.Sakai,M.Sakuda(KEK),T.Maruyama(Tohoku),T.Kadowaki(SUT), M.Kohama(Kobe),E.Jeong,H.Li(Chonnam),E.Sharkey,B.Williams,R.Reese(SUNY), M.Nakamura(Niigata) (1) Experimental Hall (Nishikawa) Power supply to the experimental hall was scheduled in December 1998. He asks the plant maintenance department to start power supply in September 1998 at latest. There will be 10-15m of a concrete floor at the GND level surrounding the experimental hall. We will have cross-beams between pillars since no one complained about them. (2) Muon (Ishii) *Ishii/Jeong/Li/Shiino/Tauchi finished 10 sets out of total 58 sets. They have sometimes problems with z-type chambers. (3) LG (Kobayashi) He summarizes the report from the LG meeting (May 28). He studies the peak pulse heights of 9 LG counters for cosmic-rays. After correcting for the geometry effects and the gain drift using xenon monitor, he found their peak values stay within +-5%. He thinks that he can do the calibration of all LG counters using this method. However, he must check the stability of the xenon monitor and its connection to LG etc. (4) SCIFI Sakuda reports: *BU group wants to use 2mm thick 6cmx10cmx2.4m Al tubes. Their plan to mill the surface of the tube into 1.5mm thick tube turns out to be very expensive. He calculates the water fraction to be 69% (BU) and 75% (Toyama Co). *He wants to use a honeycomb panel for a sheet module. weight=0.5g/cm^2. Mine reports: *they put things in order at AR and Nikko to prepare for the cosmic-ray test and VETO counter test. *In the cosmic-ray test, he will use 5 fiber sheets (4cm wide x 1.5 m long). Mine/Sharkey/Kadowaki are making fiber bundles using epoxy. When it is done, the face of the bundle will be polished at Suzuno next week. *Using the cluster program, he found the noise rate of IIT to be a few clusters /IIT/trigger if he requires 5-10 pixels for the cluster. This is satisfactory. (5) Beam monitor (Maruyama) *Williams reports the analysis of the muon minitor proto-type test. He compared the profiles of the prototype and the beam profile monitor (reference) for 5 different positions of the beam. He found that in both x and y directions the beam center which the prototype gives agrees with that of the reference monitor within +-1mm. *Inagaki tries to understand the total charge (pulse height) of the prototype using the dE/dx and multiplication factor etc. (6) DAQ Sakai summarizes the meeting of the beam trigger signals with the accelerator group. They supply us with 3 kinds of signals; (1) 20 msec before the neutrino beam -> Horn, (2) 1.1 msec before the neutrino beam ->Horn, Front detector, (3) 10 microsec before the neurtino beam -> Front detector. (7) Others *Nishikawa showed the write-up for the KEK neutrino committee where the function of the fine-grain detector and 1kton detector must be clarified. Dr. Nakamura will summon the meeting in late July or August (?). *Sakuda points out that the flux of the neutrinos is 11% more if the front detector is located at 290m instead of 300m from the target. +23% at 280m. //(M.Sakuda)
