Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 97/05/23, 15:00-16:30, TV conference room Present:K.Nishikawa,T.Ishii,T.Ishida,T.Kobayashi,S.Mine,T.Inagaki,A.Sakai, M.Sakuda(KEK),T.Maruyama(Tohoku),T.Kadowaki,T.Inada(SUT),M.Kohama(Kobe), E.Jeong,H.Li(Chonnam),E.Sharkey,R.Reese,J.Hill(SUNY) (1) Experimental Hall (Nishikawa) Nikken-sekkei changed the design of the pillars which support the floor of the GND level. They used to be just 2 pillars 7m apart, but now they are pillars with cross-beams. No big things can cross between the pillars. (2) Muon (Ishii) *Ishii/Jeong/Li/Shiino/Tauchi are testing the 7th set. *They talked with several companies to reduce the cost of the muon gas system. (3) SCIFI (Sakuda) *BU group decided to make aluminum tubes rather than FRP tubes. They will find out cost and time to produce and mill 500 aluminum tubes. *Two companies responded to the spec document of Aluminum mirroring. 5-6Myen. *The final spec of IIT-MCP-CCD/HV system was discussed at Hamamatsu on May 22. Magnetic field must be much less than 1 gauss, say 0.3 gauss, to avoid the distortion of the image. The effect of the conpensation coil must be re-examined. (On May 26, Kobayashi calculated it to be 0.4Gauss.) *A first draft of the support frame for the fiber bundle used for cosmic-ray test was shown. Suzuno wants to test the milling procedure with it. *Kobe group reports the latest ageing measurement which reliably predicts the lifetime (10% reduction) of 2024 days at 20 degC. Aoki is designing the calibration system of the real SCIFI detector. Mine reports; *He is making the supporting rack of the cosmic-ray test and making 5 layers of scifi sheets. Cosmic-ray test will start in mid-June. *Echigo's first version of the scifi clustering program was installed in IIview by Ishida. *He also prepares for the proto-type. Nishikawa requests that the proto-type (40cmx40cm 7layers) for the beam test should be completed in August. (4) Horn (Kohama) *Kohama did not see any increase in flux with his alternative design for the innner conductor of the 2nd horn and gave it up. *The continuous operation (1week long) of the 1st horn is scheduled on the 1st week of June. (5) Beam monitor (Maruyama) *The measurement of the beam profile with the muon monitor a la Tanaka (15cmx15cm) was successfully tested at the Booster Facility on 5/20. The second measurement will be performed on May 27. *Inagaki will measure the refractive index of HFC-23 (1.6atm) etc next week. *The measurement of the radiation damage of the glass and quartz will be done soon. (6) Offline (Ishida) *MacGrew and Ishida installed the software management software CVS in the Fine-grain Monte Carlo. *Introduction of Imake and CFORTRAN. *He proposes to use CVS to update the software for 1kton and SK detector. *Ishida installed the scifi cluster program into the SCIFI display (IIview). Mine explained the status of the clustering program. *Offline meeting (KEK-ICRR) was held prior to the weekly meeting. The details of the offline status will be reported later by Ishida. (7) 1kton (Itow) Itow works on the analysis of MC events for both 1kton and SK detectors and compares the distributions. K.Nakamura wants to hold the KEK neutrino promotion committee soon where the function of 1kton and FG detector will be discussed. *Welcome party for Ms. Li, Mr. Kadowaki and four SUNY visitors, 18:00-. //(M.Sakuda)
