Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 97/02/25, 19:00-21:00, KEK library meeting room, Present:K.Nishikawa(Chairman),T.Ishii,A.Sakai,T.Inagaki,S.Mine (INS), K.Nakamura,M.Sakuda,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida(KEK),T.Maruyama(Tohoku), S-H.Ahn(Korea) M.Etoh(Tokai),E-M.Jeong(Chonnam),M.Kohama,T.Echigo(Kobe) Nishikawa asks that each subgroup should present the schedule, milestone and manpower at today's meeting. (1) TOF (Ohyama) *Ahn and Ohyama test the performance of a 4m long veto counter at Nikko using cosmic-rays. They obtain the time resolution of 0.7nsec at the center of the counter. This performance is limited by the size of the available trigger counter (15cm wide). Next, they will use a smaller trigger counter. The attenuation length is also measured to be 2.8m, which is reasonable. *Ohyama shows the schedule table of the veto group in 1997-1998. (2) Decay tunnel (Nishikawa) The length of the tunnel of 2m diameter section was finally set to 90m. (3) Horn (Kohama) CERN neutrino group visits the KEK horn. The operation at 200kA every 2 sec lasted for 10 minutes. The nominal current (250kA) operation was also tested at the time interval of 20 seconds for 10 minutes. They gave several comments on the KEK horn system:e.g. Increase the electrical contact surfaces between the inner conductor and endplates.;Add a centering insulated support of the inner conductor. (4) Muon group *Ishii reports the status of the tension measurement of long chambers. 150/400 done. 5 wires are bad. *Mine reports the status of the tension measurement of short chambers. 8 wires have less tension by 10% than the nominal value. They measure the tension vs temperature to be +2.3gf/deg. *Ishii presents the schedule table of the muon group during the construction and lists the items of works. (5) Offline (Ishida) *Nakamura changes the definition of the hits in scifi MC simulation on CCPS. He does not see anything wrong. Etoh suggests that he should use dE/dx as a criterion for the hit. *Ishida studied the spatial separation of hits caused by 1 GeV electron showers in SCIFI using MC simulation. Previously he assumed the infinite resolution for 2 hit separation. He finds that 35% of hits overlap within 2mm which is about the size of the scifi hits. He applied the e-id criteria (#hits>=2 / #hits=1 >=2) to 1 GeV electrons with various spatial separations, dx=0 (ideal), 2mm and 5mm, and obtains Detection efficiency Energy resolution (dE/E in %) dx=0 (previous analysis) 95% 8% dx=2mm 82% 11% dx=5mm 57% 14%. He stresses that it is important to improve/understand the hit-id performance in SCIFI for the electron identification. *Ishida presents the schedule table of the Offline group and lists the items of works. He discusses the origin (x,y,z =0) for the front detector with ICRR. (6) SCIFI *Echigo presents a new measurement of the ageing performed at Kobe. A new fiber sample which is resistant against oxygen shows the same lifetime as the standard SCSF78M, but it gives the larger light yield. He is now estimating the cluster size of the fiber hits. *Kobayashi reports via e-mail that the magnetic field induce by the conpensation coils at the 1kton detector gives less than 1 Gauss magnetic field at the position of the IITs. It will be okay. *Sakuda presents the schedule table of the scifi group during the construction and lists the items of works. Everyone is invited to join. The Al-honercomb panels and an Al-cylinder for a new spooling machine have been glued. The milling of the groove on al-cylinder will be done next week. (7) Beam monitor Inagaki performs the gain calibration of a multi-anode PMT using xenon lamp. He sees a clear peak in each channel. Relative gain calibration, HV dependence and angle dependence will be finished in early March. (8) DAQ (Sakai) Sakai presents the schedule table of the DAQ group and lists the items of works. He explains the scheme of the event number generator (8bit) for the beam spill synchronization, the scheme for the pedestal/calibration trigger and the cosmic-rays. Nishikawa asks him to estimate the number of cables from the target region to the front detector. ***Party on Feb-24 (Mon) at KEK Shokuin-kaikan*** //(M.Sakuda)
