Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 97/02/18, 19:00-21:00, KEK library meeting room, Present:K.Nishikawa,T.Ishii,T.Chikamatsu,A.Sakai,T.Inagaki,S.Mine (INS), M.Sakuda,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida(KEK),T.Maruyama(Tohoku), S-H.Ahn(Korea) M.Etoh(Tokai),I-T.Lim,E-M.Jeong,K-J.Ma(Chonnam) (1) TOF (Ohyama) Ahn and Ohyama set up the system for a 4m long veto counter at Nikko. They will send some counters to Korea after they check what they need. (2) Decay tunnel (Nishikawa) The length of the tunnel of 2m diameter section will be decided soon. T.Suzuki calculates the radiation level for 65m,90m and 115m cases. 65m is preferable from the viewpoint of the neutrino flux, but the radiation level is not acceptable. (3) Structure *Experimental hall meeting on Feb.13 (ICRR,INS,KEK) Diameter of the experimental hall is tentatively set to 24m. Each detector must be designed as compact as possible. The gap between the iron filters be reduced from 35cm to 31cm. The space for scifi/veto is 2.4m. The center of the hall is off from the beam line by 0.4m. 1kton tank has anti-counters inside. The floor of 1kton tank and FG detector is common. *Ishii summarizes the meeting with W.Kropp (Feb-14). Ishii explains the structure of the front detector to him. He suggests that the muon group should test the installation using the mockup. *S-B.Kim/Sakuda discussed the scifi structure. S-B.Kim will decide the shape of the aluminum tube soon. He will send us the schedule for the production of water tubes. He will talk with the engineer at BU and update the scifi structure design. He also considers the veto structure design. (4) SCIFI *scifi meeting with Kurary (Sakuda,Nishikawa) The first version of the spec document for purchasing fibers was examined. It will be finished within a week. *SuzukiAT reports from Kobe that a new fiber sample which is resistant against oxygen shows the longer lifetime by 50% than the previous one. We should buy this type. (5) Muon group (Ishii) *Tension measurement of long chambers began last week. They finished 49 modules out of 400 modules and found 3 broken wires. 2 months ahead. Cosmic ray test for short chambers will begin soon. (6) LG (See Kobayashi's minutes of LG meeting,Feb-13) Inagaki summarized the LG meeting on Feb.13. *Pulse height vs electron energy for 120ns and 1.5microsec gate. *Energy resolution vs electron energy. DE/E = 10%/sqrt(E) is obtained. *Pulse height vs incident position using cosmic rays. They point out that the light guide (7.5cmD, 6cmlong) generates additional 600 MeV eq Ce light. Indeed, Maruyama confirmed that such Cherenkov light is produced in the light guide using the GEANT simulation. See also Kenmochi's memo on pnahp /home/kenmochi/lg/ngt_lg.ps. (7) Online (Sakai) He proposes to distribute the signal of the event number generator (8bit) for the beam spill synchronization. He organizes the meeting this week. (8) Beam Monte Carlo S.Mine calculates the nu_e flux and spectrum by taking into account the polarization effects of muons from pi/K decays. Nu_mu flux is unaffected. The nu_e flux is about 30% more than the previous calculation without polarization effects. He is asked to generate the official nu_e spectrum for 10**20 POT. (9) Offline Ishida distributes the Monte Carlo manual (E362-OFFL-002). He says that MC of the FG detector works well on CCPS work stations. (10) Schedule Nishikawa asks that each subgroup should present the schedule, milestone and manpower at the next E362 meeting. //(M.Sakuda)
