Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 96/11/26, 19:00-21:00, KEK library meeting room, Present:K.Nishikawa,T.Chikamatsu,T.Inagaki,A.Sakai(INS), M.Kohama(Kobe), M.Sakuda,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida(KEK),T.Maruyama(Tohoku),M.Etoh(Tokai), M.Nakamura(Niigata) (1) Muon chambers (Chikamatsu) *Tuning of the tension measurement will begin this week (Ishii,Mine et al) (2) LG (Kobayashi) *Tamura/Ken-mochi measured the LG response for cosmic-ray muons. A clear peak corresponding to a muon track is observed. The rate is 1 ev/1.5min. This study has convinced us that the calibration of 600 LG blocks using cosmic-rays will go smoothly (60blocks/week or faster). Taino reserved a room for this calibration. He gave us cables too. *Sakuda reports that our LG modules should be supported in the same way (direction) as the TOPAZ LG modules. So, the present setup of LG modules will be rotated by 90degrees. It will be discussed at the structure meeting this Friday with Kawajyu Co. (3) SCIFI *Etoh estimates the tracking efficiency of an xx (2layers) fiber ribbon. Readout is IIT-MCP-CCD+FADC, which is supposed to be our final design. The result is >99%(99.2%) when the beta-ray hits the fiber at 3m from the IIT. The pulse height distribution fits well with the poisson distr with the mean value of 5-6 p.e.(photo-electrons). We can identify the hit which produces the pulse height >0.2 p.e.. The result is as good as we expected. Sakuda reports: *Aoki says that the present pedestal value (25 counts) can be lowered to 5-10 counts. This will broaden the ADC dynamic range effectively (max.63). *Sakuda talked with Suzuno Co. over the new drum design. After discussion with Nagoya/Kobe group the specification and the cost will be fixed. *We will test the aluminum coating to a raw fiber. It "may" have two merits; one is the increase in pulse height (10% level) due to the better reflectivity. Secondly and more importantly, it may reduce the ageing effects, since the coating keeps the fiber core from oxygen. Kobe group sends a sample of fiber to Kawai-optics Co. Kobe group will have the result in January. *Kobe group cleaned up the room for a new spooling machine. (4) Horn (Kohama) *A pulsed current (25kA, 4msec wide, 1 sec period) was successfully fed to the first horn on Nov 22. --Yamanoi,Suzuki,Yamanoi,Kohama,Ieiri et al. Temperature rise and the stress is very small at 25kA. The current will be increased up to a nominal value of 250kA deliberately. *The bus bar for the second horn is being designed. *A house for the horn will be built in January. (5) Analysis Ishida reports the computing power of the KEK CCPS system. It has 16 HP CPUs. The mass storage of 1Tbytes/year is allowed. He estimates the data size of E362 to be <100Gbytes/year. He wants 6 CPUs to produce enough MC events/day. Thus, he concludes that the present system, which started this year and is expected to expand, is good enough. (6) Pi-monitor Inagaki shows the calibration procedure for the multi-anode(MA) PMT which may be used for the gas cherenkov counter. One reference PMT and each channel of MA-PMT will be tested by the diffused light of LED. (7) Structure for muon/LG/SCIFI Ishii/Chikamatsu/Sakuda/Kobayashi will meet on Nov 27 and write a specification document. Others: *Structure meeting, Nov 29, 13:00 *Offline meeting, Nov. 29, 10:00 *PS PAC, December 12/13 *INS symposium on JHP, December 3-5. *Do not forget to apply for a JPS talk (Deadline-> December 6). //(M.Sakuda)
