Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 96/11/19, 19:00-21:00, KEK library meeting room, Present:K.Nishikawa,T.Ishii,T.Chikamatsu,S.Mine,T.Inagaki(INS), M.Kohama(Kobe), K.Nakamura,M.Sakuda,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida(KEK), T.Maruyama(Tohoku),M.Etoh(Tokai), E.Jeong(Chonnam) --Muon chambers (Ishii) *The gas leak test for Barrel muon chambers is in progress. 8/25 sets are done. *Tuning of the tension measurement will begin next week. The measurement will begin on December 4. *Ishii reserved necessary HV power supplies (3kV) and low voltage power supplies (+-8V) for the experiment. *They need a PC for cosmic-ray test. *Chikamatsu designs the ventilation system. *Two Korean physicists will come to KEK in early December and work on the muon chamber system for 2 months. --LG Kobayashi reports: *The support structure for 3x3 blocks is completed. *The support structure for 1 module (60 blocks) is now being designed. *Schedule: Test of 3x3 blocks at KEK in December, e- beam at INS in January (3 weeks), e- beam and cosmic ray test at INS in April (1 month), cosmic ray test of 600 blocks in June (3 months). Maruyama reports: *Xenon flash lamp will be ordered soon. *One LG module (60 blocks) shares a xenon flash lamp signal with one reference counter (NaI) which monitors the signal from Am(alpha 5.5MeV) at the same time. He checks the signal for Am (alpha 5.5MeV). *Niigata group (Tamura et al)/KEK showed the LG response for cosmic-ray muons. The trigger rate is 50/hour. --SCIFI *Etoh is estimating the tracking efficiency precisely. Sakuda reports: *Water containers (6cmx20cmx40cm) needed for a proto-type SCIFI detector (7 layers) are delivered. *The measurement of the deformation of 3m-long water container filled with water will be performed within a few weeks. *Suzuno Co. says that they can make 1.8mm thick aluminum tube with extrusion method. Estimated cost for 200 tubes (with endplates) is about 4,300,000yen. *A draft for a new drum, prepared by Kawai/Ishikawa, was sent to Suzuno Co. Diameter of a new drum is 1.2m. The new drum will be completed in January. Kobe group ordered many parts for a new spooling machine. --Analysis *Ishida uses both LG and SCIFI to identify electrons. He defines R=(number of SCIFI layers containing>=2hits)/(number of SCIFI layers containing 1 hit) for a track. Electrons have large R values. With the present selection criteria he obtains 90 QE events (nu_e+n -> e- +P) for E>1 GeV with 22 background events (10**20POT, nu_e/nu_mu=1% case). *Offline meeting will be held regularly. Ishida organizes it. --Veto counters (Ohyama) We find that 64 TOF counters (4cmx13cmx400cm) can be removed from TOPAZ detector. We will have 160 scintillation counters in total. They cover the whole SCIFI detector. They are also used to measure t0 for the muon chambers. We have 100PMTs now. --Structure for muon/LG. Ishii/Chikamatsu/Sakuda correct the 2nd draft written by Kawajyu Co. and return to Kawajyu. We will write a specification document soon. --Others *Sakai estimates that we need a few CPUs to generate 3x10**7 Monte Carlo events in two months or so. Nishikawa suggests we should use CCPS workstations supported by KEK. Appendix --Beams Maruyama calculates the neutrino beam flux when the radius of the decay pipe at the entrance is 120cm instead of 150cm. He sees only 3.5% reduction at SK. The beam group likes to build the aluminum end plate of 120cm radius insted of 150cm radius for the mechanical reason. *Do not forget to apply for a JPS talk (Deadline-> December 6). //(M.Sakuda)
