Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 96/10/08, 19:00 - 22:00, KEK library meeting room, Present:K.Nishikawa,T.Ishii,T.Kobayashi,A.Sakai,T.Inagaki,T.Chikamatsu(INS), M.Sakuda,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida(KEK),T.Maruyama(Tohoku),E.Jeong(Chonnam), M.Kohama(Kobe),M.Etoh(Tokai),M.Nakamura(Niigata) (1) Muon chambers (Ishii/Chikamatsu) *Ishii summarizes the shift work:25/33 of the electronics boards were removed. They try an expoxy adhesive to fix the gas leak. *They need to buy two permanent magnets to carry out the tension measurement. *Inagaki tests 23 memory modules (TKO). 20 modules are good. They need 15. (2) LG calibration Kobayashi considers the possibility of using TKO-ADCs instead of FASTBUS-ADCs. This will make DAQ simpler. (3) SCIFI *Etoh continues the measurement of the detection efficiency for the fiber ribbon (xx) viewed by IIT-MCP-CCD. Sakai helps the readout problem. *SuzukiAT reports from Kobe on the ageing test of SCSF78M fibers. The lifetime (1/e) of SCSF78M at 70deg is 47days in air. They measured the lifetime in nitrogen gas (=without oxygen) too. It is estimated to be longer than 5 years (preliminary) if fibers are kept in nitrogen even at 20degC. This is consistent with Kurary's result. More details will be reported at the next collab meeting. Echigo will present the result at JPS meeting. *Sakuda reports that the construction of R&D water containers are on schedule. Seven layers of 40cmx40cmx6cm water container which are used for beam test and two 3m long water cells will be built in November. The deformation of 3m long cell will be measured then. *Fujino designs the support structure for water containers and IITs. (4) Pion Monitor Maruyama reports that the present design is 50cmx50cmx~1m gas Cherenkov counter, placed after the 2nd horn. The Cherenkov image is focused/guided by spherical lenz and flat mirror and is lead to photo-sensors (multi-anode PMT or photo-diodes). He will test the xenon flash tube system. (5) Horn Kohama prepares strain gauges, thermometers and CAMAC modules for the DC current test (next week). (6) Detector simulation Ishida/Nakamura reports the study of electron identification using both SCIFI and LG. *Nakamura studies the relation between SCIFI hits and the deposited shower energy and obtains 8-10% energy resolution at 1 GeV. *Ishida combines SCIFI and LG, and obtains 8% energy resolution at 1 GeV. He also finds that with the present design (2x5 segments) the electrons from CC(nu_e) events rarely (<10%) escape from SCIFI/LG. The result is encouraging. Next, they will study nu_e quasi-elastic event selection. (7) Cherenkov detector R&D Yamaguchi reported last week gave a rehearsal talk on the study of 6cm thick water Cherenkov detector. He measured the reflectivity of Tyvek and Goretex and implemented it in the Monte Carlo. He expects 6 p.e. per PMT. He has observed the Cherenkov signal with 5cmx5cm aluminum water cell. The result will be presented at JPS meeting. (8) Collaboration meeting on November 1 Nishikawa asks that those who want to give a talk should send him an e-mail. He will prepare the agenda. Most of the parameters of the fine grain detector will be decided soon. For example, tracking efficiency and vertex resolutions wrt vertex position should help determine the fiducial volume. The measurement of the detection efficiency (by Etoh) will be decisive too. //(M.Sakuda)
