Minutes of E362 FD weekly meeting 96/10/01, 19:00 - 22:00, KEK library meeting room, Present:K.Nishikawa,T.Ishii,T.Kobayashi,A.Sakai,T.Inagaki,S.Mine, T.Chikamatsu(INS),K.Nakamura,M.Sakuda,Y.Ohyama,T.Ishida(KEK),E.Jeong(Chonnam), M.Kohama(Kobe),M.Etoh(Tokai),N.Tamura,M.Nakamura(Niigata) (1) LG calibration Kobayashi presents the calibration procedure for 600 blocks: 3x3 blocks will be exposed to the 1 GeV electron beam; relative calibration for 3x3 blocks using cosmic ray muons; after this bench test, relative calibration for 10x10 blocks will be carried out. Data with xenon flash tube will be taken during the test. He organizes the LG group. (2) Muon chambers *Ishii reports the shift work:half of the electronics boards were removed. Gas leak test were completed. *Chikamatsu summarizes the measurement of the leak rate. Chambers with large leak rate will be fixed. He will design the ventillation system. *Rin-ei will replace the oscillator tips. (Mine) (3) Experimental hall Meeting with KawaJyu Co on muon/LG structure was held on 10/30. KawaJyu proposes the iron frames to support the muon filters. Meeting will be held every month or so. (4) SCIFI *Etoh shows the preliminary measurement of the detection efficiency for the fiber ribbon (xx) viewed by IIT-MCP-CCD. When 800V is applied to MCP, 97+-1% efficiency is obtained at the distance of 3m, while 99% is expected. This is good as a beginning of the measurement. Data will improve. *Sakuda estimates the fraction of water, aluminum and scintillators with the present cell structure; 75%, 22% and 3%. The water containers will be completed in early November. This is a realistic design. *Nakamura comments that data with aluminum target (eg 10cm thick) must be taken to subtract the contribution of neutrino events from the aluminum. (5) Horn test Kohama reports that the DC current (4000A) will be applied to the horn soon. The stress, temperature and magnetic field will be measured. He works on the data acquisition. (6) Analysis *Chikamatsu shows the event rate with new flux values that Maruyama calculated last week. For example, ~9000 qe events/ton/10**20pot (FLUKA). Nishikawa comments that GCALOR should be used. *Ishida reports the study of electron identification using SCIFI hits. He says that the electron energy can be measured with ~10% energy resolution using SCIFI hits. With the present setup, electrons leave almost all the energy in SCIFI and LG, ie the escape energy is small. Next, he will combine SCIFI and LG, and see the total performance. *Ohyama lists the questions in the present detector design. (7) Veto/TOF counters *Ohyama summarizes veto/TOF counter system in a short memo. He also estimates the cost for the system consisting of scintillators, PMTs, NIM-ECL modules, and TMC modules. Question: What is the required time resolution for the TOF counters? 0.5ns is good enough. *96 TOF counters will be removed from VENUS in 10/21-10/25. Sakuda/Ishida will supervise the work. Please help. Others: *1kton tank now stands up high near the Fuji experimental hall. It was moved succesfully by Taino et al. on September 28. *We must evacuate a room (1F) in Nikko experimental hall in October. We can continue to use the room (1F) in Fuji where the gas circulation system is located. ****E362 Collaboration meeting on November 1******* //(M.Sakuda)
