*E362 FD weekly meeting, At KEK R306, 96/06/17 (Mon), 17:30-19:00 Present:Nishikawa,Chikamatsu,Sakai(INS),Sakuda,Ishida(KEK),Etou(Tokai), Maruyama(Tohoku),Kohama(Kobe),Nakamura(Niigata) and *E362 TV conference (KEK-Kamioka), 96/06/18 (Tues), 16:00-18:00 Present:Nishikawa,Chikamatsu,Sakai(INS),Sakuda,Ishida(KEK),Etou(Tokai), Maruyama(Tohoku),Kohama(Kobe),Nakamura(Niigata) Totsuka, Itow, Ohyama (Kamioka) (1) Etou reports on SCIFI test. The trigger rate using two scintillation counters is measured to be about 8Hz and the accidental coincidence is 0.02Hz. He shows the one photo-electron pulseheight for the PMT. He has started the light yield measurement of SCSF78, SCSF78M, BCF12 and SCSF77 etc. (2) Kohama presents the status of the horn (work with Beam Channel group). He calculates the deformation of the endplate of the second horn using ANSYS. (3) Nakamura (Niigata) studies the acceptance of nu_e+n->e+p events for various realistic geometries using 600 to 1620 blocks of lead-glass counters. He finds that the acceptance for the case of 1620 blocks is only 6 % larger than that for 600 blocks. He also finds that the energy loss of electrons in water due to shower is significant (1X0=36cm) and that only the half of the volume close to the LG can be used for the measurement of electron energy. He will further check the S/N. (4)Maruyama calculates the profile for pions, muons and protons after the horn, before the beam dump and after 2m and 3.5m of iron. The beam spread of muons is about sigma_x=71cm after 3.5m of iron. The thickness of iron is now fixed to 3.5m. He and Nishikawa are designing gas Cherenkov counters after the horn to count the numbers of pi/K. (5) Other miscellaneous subjects: * >180 modules of muon chambers and >100tons of iron filters were removed from VENUS detector. * A new drum was sent to Nagoya on June 18. Tamura et al prepares for the calibration of LG counters using cosmic-rays. * At a regular Physics/Accelerator meeting on June 21, the detector group and the horn group are requested to specify the necessary beam-gate signal from the accelerator. *Itow is asked to design how to use the GPS time at the offline analysis at Super-K detector. (6) Yamaguchi/Nakano (Okayama) want to present their study on 4cm thick water Cherenkov detector at JPS meeting (Saga, October). They will present the abstract of the talk at E362 meeting on June 25. (This last issue was not discussed at TV conference.) (7) Nishikawa proposes to have the E362 collaboration meeting at KEK on August 5-6. E362 front detector group,Beam channel group and Kamioka group will join. Next TV conference -> July 2 //(Memo by Sakuda)
