E362 FD meeting At KEK R306, June 4 (Tues), 15:00-19:00 Present:Nishikawa(Chairman),Ishii,Chikamatsu,Sakai(INS),Nakamura,Sakuda,Ohyama, Ishida(KEK),Etou(Tokai),Maruyama(Tohoku),Kohama(Kobe),Nakamura(Niigata) ---TV conference (KEK-Kamioka-Tanashi)---Subject="1 kton detector", 15:00-16:40 (1) Itow estimates the efficiency and S/N of the quasi-elastic selection using MC events for three cases; (a) SK, (b) 1kton detector with the same PMT density as SK and (c) 1 kton tank detector, E261A. Efficiency~95%, Background~30%. He hardly sees any differences. (2) Miura shows that transverse vertex resolutions will improve if the time resolutions of PMT improve. However, in reality, the vertex resolutions of the detector may not improve even if they develope a new PMT having a better time resolution. -> Kamioka group concludes that 1 k ton detector should have the same PMT as SK and the same PMT density as SK. (3) A first sketch of the experimental hall by M.Takasaki was shown. KEK-INS will complete the specifications for the construction of the experimental hall/Muon ranger during this year. Can the neutrino beam cross 2m below the center of the 1kton tank?? It may save a certain amount of money and labour. Kamioka group is asked to study this possibility by September. -----TV conference end ----- Next TV conference (KEK-ICRR) -> June 18 E362 weekly meeting, 17:00-19:00 (1) Nishikawa summarizes the Horn meeting. First horn has been delivered (Yamanoi). Power supply will be delivered on June 27 (SuzukiZ). Design of the beam dump is fixed (Tanaka). But the design of the muon detector is not decided yet. (2) Maruyama estimates the deformation of an aluminum cell containing water. He recommends a 2mm thick aluminum cell of the size 4cm x 30 cm x 3 m. He also points out that the gain of PMT must be increased for light yield measurement. (3) Sakai does the endurance test of the VME FIFO module (>10**4 times). He will also study the nuclear effects (C,O) of CC interactions. (4) Kohama reports the activity of Kobe group (Aoki, SuzukiAT, Hara). Aging test of fibers is being set up. They will help the fabrication of fiber sheet at Nagoya next month. (5) Etou will ask Kansai Paint Co about the glue which is good for multi-clad fibers. He will resume the light yield measurement of various fibers. (6) Ishii reports the status of muon chamber test. Test scheme of the front-end board is established. Readout system of the tension measurement is being built. Readout electronics system is almost understood. (7) Chikamatsu discusses with Taino over the temperature control of the tent house where muon chambers are to be stored. (8) NakamuraM will repeat his analysis of nu_e/nu_mu measurement using the realistic geometry of the lead-glass counters. Sakuda comments that we can calibrate all LG counters using cosmic rays with a few % accuracy (Enomoto et al , VEGA collab). Otherwise, electron beams must be used. (9) Nakamura (KEK) wants to hold a joint meeting (Physics-Accelerator) to decide the beam gate signal. Sakuda is asked to organize the meeting (Front detector, Horn, Accelerator). (10) Hardware schedule: The disassembling of the muon chambers will start on June 10 and will be finished in late July. Shifts will be assigned. The work starts at 8:15 AM and ends at 18:00, Monday through Saturday. A new drum (1m diameter) will be completed in mid-June and sent to Nagoya for fabrication of the fiber sheet. (11) Every Tuesday afternoon, KEK hold a physics seminar at 16:00-17:00. This conflicts our meeting. Horn group schedules a meeting from 13:30 to 15:00 every Tuesday. We propose E362 FD meeting from 10:00 to 12:00, Tuesday. Any other suggestions?? Next E362 meeting -> June 11 (Tuesday, 10:00-12:00). // (Memo by Sakuda)
