E362 FD weekly meeting At KEK R306, 1996 May 17(Fri), 17:30-19:00 Present:Nishikawa,Chikamatsu,Sakai(INS),Nakamura,Sakuda(KEK),Etou(Tokai), Maruyama(Tohoku),Kohama(Kobe) Nishikawa explains that the purpose of the meeting is to assign the responsible person for the tasks which need to be done in the next three or four months. The situation may change when we have new collaborators in the near future. (1) Transferring muon chambers from VENUS to the tent-house. The public tender is scheduled on May 28. A company will begin the work from June 1 and finish it by the end of July. We must remove cables and gas tubes around the chambers during next week. Sakuda will supervise the work untill the procedure of the disassembling work has been established. Chikamatsu, a muon group, volunteers to be a superviser as well as a shift szar. At least three persons (Chikamatsu, Ohyama and Sakuda) must understand the work since it will take two months to finish this work. (2) Muon chamber test Ishii is responsible for the modification of the electronics and hardware test (tension, source test etc). Muon chamber group= Ishii, Shiino, Tauchi, Chikamatsu (INS) (3) Scifi Etou/Maruyama will measure the light yield of various types of fibers. Etou is responsible for the optimization of the fibers (Master thesis). A new drum is being assembled at the nearby workshop. Nagoya group will set up the winding machine in late June and begin to make fiber sheets in July. One or two persons from our group must stay in Nagoya and learn to make fiber sheets. Maruyama/Sakuda will discuss over the structure of scifi detector with the mechanical engineering center after receiving a sample of fiber sheets from Nagoya next week. Tamura has obtained the Grant-in-Aid from Monbushou. Aoki(Kobe) and Tamura are responsible for the optimization of the IIT-MCP-Lenz-CCD scheme. (4) Lead Glass We need the response of LG for protons, since CC events with protons hitting LG are the main source of background for nu_e/nu_mu measurement. We first check the proton response using VENUS data (protons can be identified by TOF). TOPAZ group (Spokesperson) does not like outside people to analyze TOPAZ data. Do we have to calibrate 1000 LG counters using electron beams? (5) Sakai/Sakaki will design the data-taking system. (6) We must finish design the structure including muon filters+ chambers + LG counters by April, 1997. KEK/INS (Sakuda et al.) will start the design. (7) Maruyama/Nishikawa will design the beam monitors. Nishikawa proposes to have gas Cherenkov counters after the 1st horn to measure pi/K's and Ion Chambers after the beam dump to measure the muons. Next E362 Front Detector meeting -> June 4. // (Memo by Sakuda)
