Yoshi-Suzuki(KEK) ordered a power supply for the Horn for ~1.2 Oku-yens. It will be delivered next April. A public tender for the 2nd Horn will be held in mid-November. One problem with the horn is how to handle the thermal expansion of the structure, which is estimated to be about 3mm. They consider the structure whose one end is set free along the direction of the expansion. Miyamoto/Yamanoi independently calculate the stress due to the magnetic force. They agree. The Horn current (I) will be monitored by either the voltage (=IR), Hall probe or pickup coil. (2) Beam Monitor Nishikawa calculates the number of surviving muons and protons after 1m to 5m of iron at the beam dump. After 5m of iron, no protons remain while 200 muons survive for 5x10**5 protons incident on target. (1 pulse (2 seconds) contains 5x10**12 protons. Using 5x10**5 is just due to the lack of CPU time.) We expect 2x10**9 muons per pulse. They can be used to monitor the on-line beam conditions. He will further study the angular correlation of these muons with neutrinos or parent pi's and k's. (3) FD Hardware Nakamura explains to Koizumi (Head of the KEK Mechanical Engineering Center) and Fujino (who organizes the work there) that the neutrino experiment is considered to be one of the most important projects at KEK (B-factory, JLC, Neutrino), showing pamphlets and pictures. Sakuda explains the front neutrino detector, especially water/SCIFI detector. Koizumi and Fujino promises a support to this project. For a time being, Fujino will give us advice. Fujino tells us to visit him frequently and report the progress. First, he wants to have a sample of fiber sheet. Nagoya group will soon start making fiber sheets for Fermilab experiment. Nakamura (Nagoya) has some idea on a water/SCIFI detector and will visit KEK with a small sample of fiber sheet soon. Nishikawa reports the meeting at Kobe on Oct 15 (Hara, Aoki, Nishikawa, SuzukiA). He will order SCSF78 fiber (0.5mm diameter) soon and one Image Intensifier with CCD and HV. We must find a way to reduce cost for a set of IIT-CCD-HV. We will check the space for muons and LG on Oct 31 (Sakuda, Chikamatsu). We need a small room in which we start R&D work for water/SCIFI detector etc. One idea is to use Minami-tateya as a laboratory. We will ask Nakamura (KEK) to re-organize existing rooms or find a new laboratory. (4) FD Software Chikamatsu used the phi angle (x-y plane) only to separate quasi-elastic events from Inelastic events. He expects a better separation if he uses 3-dim angles from positions at SCIFI detector. Previously, B/(S+B)=13%. SuzukiA(Kobe) studies the muon energy resolution. Asai(HiroshimaTech) will visist KEK on Nov 8-9 to set up GEANT FD simulation on PURE workstations, which KEK computer center supports. Next E362 FD meeting-> November 9, 10:00 (End of the meeting, Memo by Sakuda)
