Add, Drop, and Pass/Not Pass deadlines

Chem, Math, ESS and Physics courses use WebReg for the first 2 weeks. Your Instructor does not sign add/drop cards during the first two weeks.

After Week 2, you must also get your Dean's permission to change P/NP option.

After Week 6, you must also get your Dean's permission to drop a class.

Chem classes - After Week 2, go to the Chem Enrollment Office, NS2 1101 to get the signature. Your Instructor does not sign your card. After Week 2, must get petition approved (from NS2 1101) to drop a lower-division class. Add deadline is Friday Week 2.

Math classes - Uses waitlist system. Must be on waitlist by the end of Week 2. During Week 3, the Math department will decide who gets in from the waitlist, if anyone. After Week 3, get signature from Instructor.
(math department waitlist policy)

Physics classes - No adds after Week 2. To drop or change P/NP, get card signed by Physics Enrollment Office, FRH 4109. Your Instructor does not sign your card.

ESS classes - Adds, drops and P/NP changes allowed until end of Week 6, get your Instructor's signature.

Repeating a class

You can only repeat classes in which you received a C- or below. For many courses, you cannot enroll until the adjustment period or the first day of classes. The first 16 units you repeat at UCI, the new grade replaces the old grade. After that, any repeats are averaged with the old grade.

How to change your major

Getting into a major requires that you have completed a certain set of classes and achieve a certain GPA in those classes. Speak to an Academic Counselor in the area you want to major in, as soon as possible. Consider Physical Sciences, Undeclared, or Undecided/Unaffiliated (Division of Undergraduate Education) if you are unsure of what you want to pursue.

How to enroll in classes though ACCESS UCI (University Extension)

Attend class starting on the first day of instruction (for Math classes, also get on the ACCESS waiting list as soon as possible, available in RH 340). Let the Instructor know that you are trying to enroll thru ACCESS UCI, be sure they put you on the email list, so you get important class announcements. Bring the ACCESS UCI Enrollment Form to the department office at the appropriate time (2nd week for Math classes, 2nd Thursday for Physics classes, first day for ESS courses, first day for Chem classes). If there is sufficient space in the class, the department will sign your form. Take it to UCI Extension, pay the fee and you're enrolled!

Can I enroll in a class if I haven't satisfied the prerequisites?

You should not enroll in any course for which you have not yet satisfied the prerequisites as stated in the General Catalogue, even if WebReg allows you to enroll.

Can I enroll in a class if there is a time conflict?

You should not enroll in any course if time overlaps with another course you are in. If the amount of overlap is small, and either Instructor is ok with you missing part of the class, then you can use an add card to enroll. Add cards override the time conflict.
